RSP/DCP Oral History Stories

Work in Progress - Subject to Additions and Modifications

Since 1996, we have been accumulating historical information about Ouray County. From 2002 to 2011 we concentrated our efforts on recording and archiving oral history stories with Log Hill Mesa (LHM) pioneer families. This led to the publication of their stories that are archived in the Ridgway Public Library. We also published two books on LHM history; this information is posted on our website: www.loghillhistory.com.

Regarding our background, we moved to Ouray County from New York State in November 1990 and moved into our newly built home on Log Hill Mesa in early 1991. Jack was an active member of the LHM Volunteer Fire Dept. for 19 years starting in 1991. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the LHM Fire Protection District from 1993 to 1999.

Since 2012, we have concentrated on the history of the Uncompahgre River Valley from Old Dallas to Billy Creek. We recently published a book titled: "The Ouray Water Gap"; this book is posted on our website.

We are now conducting oral history interviews with people who have personal knowledge pertaining to the history of the Ridgway State Park/Dallas Creek Project. As soon as a story is given written approval for publication by an interviewee, it will be archived in the Local History Area at the Ridgway Public Library and included here in this book.

If you or someone you know is interested in the possibility of contributing remembrance stories to this project, please contact us at rairden@montrose.net.
