We have been influenced to establish this Website based on our history interviews and many subsequent discussions with James (Jim) Austin, who was Montrose City Manager from 1971 to 1979. Often when he refers to Montrose, he is referring to the entire Uncompahgre River Valley and even the Gunnison and South Fork River Valleys as an interacting entity. He recently referred to that area as the “Colorado Crescent”. Please refer to “Austin’s Words of Wisdom” on this site.
Some of our history stories increasingly extend from Ouray County to Delta County and will be included here. This site includes our “work in progress” E-Book: “The History of the Ridgway State Park/Dallas Creek Project as remembered by those who made that History”.
We have added our newly published book: “The Montrose Mouse Story - Saving the Dallas Creek Project, the Ridgway Dam and the Ridgway State Park”.
